At a time when music often races to keep pace with a rapidly changing world, there are artists who return to it depth, breath, and soul. Among them stands Valter Borin—a multifaceted Italian conductor whose journey has traversed opera houses, concert halls, and international stages, animated by a singular passion for excellence, clarity, and authenticity.

An Italian conductor, composer, pianist, and former operatic tenor, Borin was trained at the prestigious Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, earning diplomas in Piano (1994) and Composition (1998). His artistic evolution was profoundly shaped by his mentorship with Maestro Marcello Rota, whom he assisted in the preparation of major productions, including Andrea Bocelli’s acclaimed concert in Abu Dhabi (2019). His early conducting debut dates back to 1992, when he led a youth orchestra in Milan performing two of his own compositions.

From 1999 to 2013, Borin’s voice resonated across the world’s stages as a principal tenor, performing leading roles in major opera houses including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Wien, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Mikhaylovsky Theater St. Petersburg, La Scala, and Los Angeles Opera. Even during his flourishing vocal career, he continued to study scores from the podium’s perspective—refining orchestral insight and cultivating a conductor’s instinct guided by musical depth and dramatic understanding.

In 2013, he returned fully to the conductor’s baton—an artistic path that had called to him since his earliest years. His renewed journey began with a prestigious milestone: on 5 October 2013, he conducted Verdi’s Requiem with the Asti Symphony Orchestra at the historic Teatro Alfieri, an acclaimed performance that marked his definitive transition from the operatic stage to the podium. The triumph of that evening led the orchestra to appoint him as its Artistic Director, a position he held until 2015, during which he conducted several major symphonic programs and contributed to expanding the ensemble’s artistic profile and international visibility. With near‑encyclopedic mastery of the operatic repertoire and a constantly expanding grasp of symphonic literature, his conducting style brings together emotional precision, structural clarity, and a uniquely vocal approach to phrasing.

He has since conducted productions of La Traviata, Nabucco, Aida, Rigoletto, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Turandot, La Bohème, Tosca, and Die Fledermaus in major theaters across Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, Germany, and Russia.

In 2015, Borin served as General Music Director of Teatro di Milano, conducting new productions of Nabucco, La Traviata, Turandot, and La Bohème. That same year, he led Rigoletto and Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia, collaborating with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra ant the OFI - Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana.

Between 2018 and 2019, he conducted multiple performances of Puccini’s Tosca at the National Theater of Banská Bystrica in Slovakia, earning praise for his dramatic pacing and vocal sensitivity.

In July 2022, he conducted a new production of Die Fledermaus for the Berlin Opera Academy, bringing Strauss’s operetta to life with elegance, theatrical flair, and rhythmic vitality.

In September 2022, Borin led the Cameristi della Scala in Milan’s Piazza Duomo for the spectacular celebration of Moncler’s 70th anniversary—a monumental event featuring over 100 orchestral musicians, 120 adult choristers, a children’s choir, and 1952 dancers. The performance wove together music by Dvořák, Bach, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Vivaldi, and Orff, merging classical tradition with contemporary visual culture in a once-in-a-lifetime artistic spectacle.

Borin is a regular guest conductor for the Top Concerts Foundation in Moscow, leading prestigious ensembles at the historic Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the futuristic House of Music. His recent programs devoted to Wagner, Strauss, Beethoven, and Orff’s Carmina Burana have been met with acclaim, often featuring collaborations with internationally renowned soloists such as pianist Ivan Bessonov.

As a composer, he channels a personal and contemplative voice through works for solo instrument, symphonic ensemble, and sacred choral formations. His lyric poem Phos, for soprano and piano, was released in 2022 by Da Vinci Records. In September 2025, Opera Discovery Records will publish a rediscovered one-act opera by Stanislao Gastaldon, whose lost orchestration Borin faithfully reconstructed and conducted, bringing new life to a forgotten work.

In autumn 2026, he will return to Moscow to lead a new series of symphonic concerts—an engagement that reflects his deep belief in music as a bridge between cultures, a space where dialogue, understanding, and shared humanity can flourish with grace and power.
